Eli Steinwitz
Eli was born in 1985, in Lenton, Indiana. He's the son of a jewish couple, a farmer and a homemaker. As a child, his father
would work him daily on the farm, and though he was a loving father, he would criticize Eli constantly. His father was the
type of man that talked quickly and constantly, never really leaving Eli room to plead his case when he got into trouble.
It wasn't until Eli turned sixteen that he decided to find work outside of the farm, leaving Bomba, their house assistant,
to tend to the workload with his father. Eli's search for a job yielded a spot in a local jewish market as a chef. Eli's experience
on the farm, cooking from scratch his family's long list of kosher recipes, though he didnt realize it, was enough to land
him far more than he received at this new occupation, but a job was a job, and Eli was anxious to get started in the industry.
For three years he worked at Kaspit's Corner Cousines, developing quite a name for himself. As a result, a great deal of
the business to the little shop was in request of Eli's talent. The town of Lenton became famous for Eli's cooking, and all
this clientelle provided Eli with quite a bit of money, half of which he saved, and the other half of which went to the family
farm. By the end of his three years at the shop, Eli had saved over thirty thousand dollars. In October of his third year,
a terrible accident left the shop a heap of embering mulch. Incidentally, it was only three weeks before this event that a
man from Paris contacted Eli with a job opportunity in Bordeaux, at a four star restaurant called La Corbeille à Pain. Three
weeks before the incident, Eli turned the owner down, but this, he believed was a sign that perhaps his future lie in France.
With this, Eli emptied his savings account. He gave fifteen thousand to Kaspit, allowing her to rebuild Corner Cousines,
gave ten thousand to his parents to keep the farm, and took only five thousand with him to Bordeaux, where he worked under
Sébastien le Magnifique, as an assistant chef.
For three more years he worked at La Corbeille à Pain, becoming very close with his new mentor, Sébastien. When Sébastien
decided to move the restaurant abroad, (so abroad as to be in space), he returned to La Corbeille à Pain only to retrieve
Eli. It was at this time that Sébastien expressed to Eli that it was time he moved up in the industry, indicating that if
Eli wanted to be his assistant head chef, he would have to travel with Sébastien around the galaxy to study the eating habits
of alien races, and develop new cousines to suit species throughout space.
Eli agreed, and left the planet aboard the Dreadknot with Sébastien.
